The versatile, easy brilliance of the Turning Twenty quilt.

The other day while at my local quilt shop (LQS), I was selecting some additional fat quarters for a quilt I’m about to start. I had a pattern in mind that I was going to use – but then I saw it – hanging on the wall. I really cool modern quilt with NO TRIANGLES design. Thinking to myself, “that looks easy,” I asked about it.

And wouldn’t you know it… they had a book. Its shocking to me how these books make quilting seem easy and fast. But nonetheless, I LOVE QUILTING BOOKS almost as much as I LOVE FABRIC, and I bought this book. And it looks easy!

Here’s how the Turning Twenty works:

- Gather 20 fat quarters (this is one of the many times you’ll be so happy you stashed all those fat quarters!)
- DON’T WASH THE FAT QUARTERS; they might shrink too much
- Figure out which variation of the Turning Twenty you want to make. This books offers four variations.
- Follow the directions for cutting, layout and piecing
- Lay and coordinate the pieces on the floor or a design wall so that your fabric patterns don’t all end up bunched together
- Piece and sew your blocks together.

Here’s the fabric that I’m going to use for my first Turning Twenty quilt. Its all woven fabrics and I’m hoping it comes out masculine. I’m really excited to get started on this project because its really at my beginner level!

Woven fabrics mostly from Kaffe Fassett Collection
