Welcome to the family my sweet new Bernina Aurora 440

Today I gave in – Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah to ME! I’ve been considering an upgrade from my pretty much brand new Brother NX-450 (a very nice machine mind Bernina Aurora 440you) to the Bernina Aurora 440 Quilters Edition.

Never in a million years when I purchased my first sewing machine only a few months ago could I predict how much I’d fall head over heels for quilting and sewing.

So about a month ago when I was at my local sewing machine shop, Grant House Sewing, taking a class, I met Aurora 440. It had all things that I realized I would want today or someday soon.Working with my local dealer is great and personal. They gave me a great deal on the Bernina and took the Brother back as a credit. I got an hour training immediately, and left knowing I could go home, plug it in, and get sewing! (I made a cute soft cover for the Aurora tonight from a pattern in one of my favorite books: One-Yard Wonders: 101 Fabulous Fabric Projects (pg 83).

One of the great features of the Aurora Series is the BSR – Bernina Stitch Regulator. Now before you judge me for using a stitch regulator, hear me out – would you be upset with a 4-year old for using training wheels?  The BSR gives me just enough control over my free motion quilting that I can actually spend alittle time working on my design and enjoying the process of learning… vs. trying to find endless hours to practice and creating projects that I’m frustrated with. For a hobbyist like me, a little extra help like the BSR is really a great tool that makes my sewing/quilting time more fun!

I’m so excited to start my free motion project on my son’s Thomas The Tank quilt tomorrow!

Gotta go sew!
