iPhone Apps for quilting and sewing.

Do you have an iPhone? If you do, then you are very familiar with the App Store on iTunes. I love my iPhone and all of my nifty apps that keep my occupied from whatever I should be doing. I love getting together with my other iPhone friends and comparing/sharing apps. Its the best way to find new, useful, fun goodies.
I’ve also been scouring iTunes for various sewing/quilting apps that might make my life alittle more entertaining. Here’s what I’ve found…
APPS THAT I’VE USED:
QuiltRef (FREE APP – Good to download): I’ve used this basic app a few times already to

QuiltRef Converter
figure out how many yards I need, or the length of a project. This app includes:
- Inches/yards/centimeter conversion calculator (basic)
- Quick Reference bed sizing chart
- Triangle setting size calculator
QuiltFab (FREE APP – Good to download): I believe this app was the first and QuiltRef is the followup. This app is good but more complicated and not overly intuitive.
- The Summary button is first on the app navbar but it should probably be last because you need to go thru the other screens (i.e. fabric, binding, border, backing, etc.) and put in values.

QuiltFab Summary
- Under the More button is an “info” link. YOU NEED TO READ THAT SECTION because it tells you the calculation assumptions that the app is making.
MultiConvert (FREE APP – Good to download): I’ve had this app for some time and use it frequently for all sorts of measurements. It has a built-in length (yard/inch/metrics) converter too.
AroundME (FREE APP – Good to download): This app tells you what you can find around your geographic vicinity. Besides coffee shops, gas stations and grocery stores, you can search on words like “fabric” and it will show you all the fabric stores in your area. I recently used this app to find the local fabric store in Mesa, Arizona. It worked perfectly!
CraftVideo: Quilting (.99cents that you shouldn’t waste)
- All the videos in this collection are from novice quilters that have posted videos on YouTube. Most are pretty tedious to watch. Enough said.
APPS THAT I HAVEN’T TRIED BUT LOOK GOOD
Quick & Easy Quilt Block Tool ($3.99): I haven’t purchased this app because I’m just not quite

Easy Quilt Block Tool
“there yet” with triangles and alot of small peices in each 12inch block. That being said, this app looks really great!
- Offers 102 block designs with dimensions and measurements
- Each design gives you 5 block sizes and calculates the corresponding mesaurements
- Easy scroll list viewing to select which block you want to view
- Reference tools
- All 11 people on iTunes that have reviewed it gave it 5 stars
FabricStash ($1.99): I haven’t purchased this app because it seems like it would be time consuming. Basically this app is an visual index of your fabric collection. You take pictures of your fabric, enter key information about the fabric, and categorize. Personally, entering all that info on my iPhone would be a chore, but I could see how this might come in handy for matching fabric, or creating less purchase duplications. The iTunes rating is a 4 star so its pretty good.
Quilt Envi (.99cents): This app is a photo gallery of quilts worldwide. If you need inspiration,

QuiltEnvi
I’m sure this app would be great. I need more direction in sizing and cutting so it wouldn’t necessarily work for me, but it would be a good color design app.
Yardage Calc ($2.99):: This is just what the name implies and would be a good iPhone app for sewers that work from clothing patterns. This app gives you yardage requirements if you are trying to calculate fabric needed when a pattern uses a different width of fabric that what’s available. Also converts yards to meters and visa versa.
That’s all… Gotta go sew!
