Fabric stash out of control?
Get organized for 2010.

My fabric stash was growing just like yours. Do you keep it large plastic bins like me, or worse, in a messy pile?

IS THAT ANY WAY TO TREAT YOUR LOVELY FABRIC?

If you can’t really see what you have, or group it with similar fabrics, or separate the quilting fabrics from the home dec fabrics in a way that helps motivate you for your next project, you have a bad system going… (like I did.) And worst of all, you don’t really have a way to keep scrap fabrics organized for a scrappy quilt project.

Here’s a solution: The day I went to Quilt Ventura I noticed (as I was walking out the door) a cardboard thing hanging on the wall, and the gal said, “that’s a fabric organizer. People come in and buy 75 at a time to clean up their fabrics.”

Polar Notions' Fabric Organizer

By the next day my organization lightbulb had turned on, and I decided to order some online. I found the cardboard fabric organizers that I had seen in the store, and was thrilled. But then I realized that the shipping was outrageous.

So I started to look around and found plastic, acid-free, long-lasting fabric organizers at Polar Notions. I liked these because they aren’t as tall as the cardboard ones so they fit on my shelves much better yet hold as much fabric and aren’t bendable. These boards come in two sizes and the small is perfect for a 1/2 yard or fat quarter.

Elaine, the owner, shipped them out the next business day (which is great because when you have the bug to organize, you don’t want to wait!) and was quick to respond to an email I sent her. (A great product and good customer service – NICE.)

What came out of my organization was that I realized that my fabric stash wasn’t that big at all!  (So I’ve been working on growing it ever since.)

If you’ve been thinking about getting organized this year and finding new ways to enjoy your fabric stash, take a look at these nifty boards.

Gotta go sew!
